South Florida Places to Search for Lakefront Homes

    guide to lakefront homes

Waterfront homes have always been a real attraction in South Florida. Not surprising, the real estate market has an abundance of lakefront homes for sale. Particularly in towns like Coral Gables, Doral, North Miami Beach, Hialeah, Hollywood and Miami Lakes. Prices are sloping downward lately and it is clearly a market for buyers.

Awesome condominiums, apartment, townhouses, and lakefront homes for sale are available at every price point buyers might require. If waterfront homes are what you desire, then South Florida is heaven on Earth. With more than it’s share of natural inlets from the Atlantic and a highly cultivated zoning system

Here are some of the ideal neighborhoods to consider lakefront houses in South Florida. While many of the lakes are manmade or have been pruned to increase the functionality, they are the idyllic environment for Miami houses to buy or rent to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

    Coral Gables

Coral Gables is a town almost 50,000 and is one of the first neighborhoods to be called a gated community as it is well known for its fairly strict zoning laws.

The home of the University of Miami, it’s also exquisitely developed in the popular Mediterranean Revival style and has a plethora of lakefront homes for sale. An internet search will result in plenty of splendid options to check out.

The downtown commercial district is an amazing, compact design, the brainchild of George Merrick, who dreamed up (and successfully implemented) a plan in the early 1920s to have all businesses in the business district within walking distance, all within a few blocks of each other.

The town also boasts MetroRail, part of the Tri-Rail train system, which is quite popular in the area.

The city of Doral is right outside of the Miami International Airport, and according to CNN, is one of the top cities for its combination of business advantages and lifestyle appeal. And because of where it is situated by the airport, it has an abundance of financial institutions and importers and exporters.

It’s also known for its unique shopping district. And when considering lakefront homes for sale, there are some awesome choices in and around its wonderful golf courses. Until 2006, the PGA’s Doral Open was a staple of the PGA Tour and held at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa, one of the most popular courses on the professional golf tour’s schedule.

Today, the resort is owned by U.S. President Donald Trump and is now known as Trump National Doral Miami and hosts a new tournament, the WGC-Cadillac Championship. Waterfront homes are in abundance in the area. As regular readers of our blog know, Trump is heavily involved in Miami condo real estate with several beachfront luxury properties.

Home to around 225,000 folks, Hialeah is the anchor city of Miami’s metropolitan area. Its Cuban and Cuban-American population dominates. About 75 percent of Cuban-Americans call Hialeah home. This makes it the largest Spanish-speaking location in the United States.

It has a rail system that connects Hialeah with Okeechobee, Downtown Miami, West Palm Beach and Doral (well, Miami International Airport, to be specific). Hialeah is where Telemundo, the second-largest Spanish-speaking television channel in America, makes its home.

There are many fabulous lakefront homes for sale and waterfront homes for sale here.

Hollywood is an ideal city for people looking into lakefront homes for sale or waterfront homes for sale and is home to nearly 150,000.

The town was designed with lakes being a focal point, not just for the functional use of them, but to build around them. as there are several country clubs, golf courses, luxury beach hotels, and an intricately designed main street hub, Hollywood Boulevard (remember, this is Florida), which houses several amazing shops and clubs, restaurants and several streets, neighborhoods, and buildings with Mediterranean-style architecture.

The Joseph Young Mansion, circa 1921, is one of the city’s oldest most historic houses. One final note, there were some massive hurricanes that struck the Miami area in the 1920s and 1930s, devastating the region, particularly Hollywood neighboring city Miami. It took awhile, but the area rebounded and is now a fabulous area to look for waterfront homes.

    Miami Lakes

Finally, Miami Lakes is an amazing area, with awesome shopping centers, tot-lot parks and a city center named Main Street.

It is worth noting that almost all of the properties featured here are the inspired result of “The New Urbanism movement.” A community-based idea which takes narrow walkways. Curving shade trees along the sidewalks. It is designed so that homes, shops, and neighborhood parks are all within walking distance. The concept’s end goal is to create a tight-knit feeling of community alongside sculpted waterfront features.
